The Lord

​

In the old and new testament the lord is referred to as lord, and Jesus claims to be lord.

27 The lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us.

He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Isaiah 45:21 
Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.

Living Waters.

Isaiah 14:9-10

They shall not hunger or thirst. For He who has pity on them will eat them and by springs of water will guide them. 

Isaiah 55:1 

"Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters." In context, it is God inviting people to Himself.
Jeremiah 2:13

 God says, "They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters."
Ezekiel 47:1–12 

A life-giving river flows from God's Temple, bringing life wherever it goes.

John 4:14

14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 7:37-39
37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”

Revelation 21:6

Christ says:

“To the thirsty I will give from the fountain of the water of life without payment.”

Revelation 22:17

“And let him who is thirsty come, let him who desires take the water of life without price.”

Jeremiah 17
12 A glorious throne set on high from the beginning
    is the place of our sanctuary.
13 O Yahweh, the hope of Israel,
    all who forsake you shall be put to shame;
those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water.

The Anointed One/God/The Messiah will bring healing and liberation.

Isaiah 61:1–2 
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the afflicted, to bind up the brokenhearted…”
 Luke 4:16–21— Jesus explicitly applies this prophecy to himself. He reads Isaiah and then says:
“Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”​​​​

I AM

I Am is the name of God in Old Testament. In the Hebrew Bible this name was so sacred it couldn't even be pronounced, and Jesus claimed this name for himself:

Isaiah 43:10

You are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant, whom I have chosen: therefore ye shall know and believe me, and ye shall understand that I am: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

John 8:48-59 

Jesus:

Before Abraham Was, I Am. 

Exodus 3:14
“And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you” (Exodus 3:7–8, 13–14).

I am the First and the Last

6 This is what the Lord says, the King of Israel
   and its Redeemer.
       the Lord of the Heavenly Armies is his name.

Revelation 22:13-15 (Jesus speaking)
13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.​​​​​​

It is God who calms the sea, as does Jesus.

8 Who is like you, Lord God Almighty?
    You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

“Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still…”

Job 9:8 (says of God):
“who alone stretched out the heavens and trampled the waves of the sea.”

10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

30 I and the Father are one.”

31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed
24 Father, I desire that they also… may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.”
 

Matthew 12:15-21
15 When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many [people] followed him, and he cured them all, 16 but he warned them not to make him known. 17 This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah 42:1-4 the prophet:

18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,
    my beloved in whom I delight;

“Everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me. 45
“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. 46 There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me.”

Deuteronomy 18:15
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen.”
Acts 3:22
“Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you from your brothers a prophet like me…’”
In Acts 7:37 Stephen applies the same prophecy to Jesus.

Numbers 21:8–9 → John 3:14–15
Jesus says:
“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up.”

And the Passover lamb is understood in relation to Christ:
Exodus 12 → John 1:29 / 1 Corinthians 5:7
“Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”

In Jewish theology, only God can forgive sins directly.

Mark 2:10-11

10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”

Isaiah 52:13 Behold my servant shall act wisely. He shall be high and lifted up and shall be exalted.

Deuteronomy 32:39
"'See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.

John 8:24 (Jesus)

I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he. 28 When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.

“We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

Reading Hearts.

​

It is ascribed to God to be the one to know the hearts of men. (1 Kings 8:39; Jeremiah 17:10; 1 Samuel 16:7)

In mark Jesus reads the hearts of many thinking who is he to forgive sins.

Mark 2:5–8
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven."
6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts,
7 “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts?”

Isaiah 7:14 (740–701 B.C.)Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.("Immanuel" is a Hebrew word meaning "God with us" and expresses the wonder of the incarnation, that God "became flesh and made his dwelling among us.")

Isaiah 9:6​

6 For to us a child is born,
   to us a son is given,
   and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
   Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

John 1
The Word Became Flesh
(Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God.)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
