I AM is the name of God in Old Testament. In the Hebrew Bible this name was so sacred it couldn't even be pronounced, and Jesus claimed this name for himself:

John 20:27-29

Then [Jesus] said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me?”

John 1
The Word Became Flesh
Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. Jesus shown as God through metaphor:

Jeremiah 17
12 A glorious throne set on high from the beginning
is the place of our sanctuary.
13 O Yahweh, the hope of Israel,
    all who forsake you shall be put to shame;
those who turn away from you shall be written in the earth
, for they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water.

John 7:38-39
38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

John 8

3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

More dispute from the Jews and Pharisees over Jesus being God.
